Fifty years ago this month, “Be My Baby” was released. The Ronettes sang it, Phil Spector produced it, but what everyone who’s ever heard it will never forget is the most memorable downbeat in popular music and the break near the end of the song that repeats it. The drummer? Hal Blaine, 84, who played on a huge number of hits from those days as a part of The Wrecking Crew, the studio musicians who defined the sound of the songs. Great drummer! Great song! And the Ronettes are still fabulous to hear. Thanks for the link to the song.
