[A] ‘raging debate’ continues in the scientific community over the issue of so-called transfer; that is, whether improving cognitive skills in one specific area — like those involved with acting — can transfer over into the mental demands of other areas of one’s life. Still, whether or not that occurs . . . simply making the effort to learn or continue refining these skills can be beneficial, whether in learning the dramatic arts, playing games like chess and bridge, or simply visiting the library and perusing the latest arrivals.
