Gardening, music, art, swimming, crafts, computers, and more kept our EngAGE community residents active all month. We also marked a special occasion:
After almost nine years, Jewel Forga, EngAGE Food Bank Coordinator, retired. Jewel’s job was to oversee food delivery from Orange County Food Bank and Second Harvest Food Bank in Anaheim, Buena Park and Garden Grove — no small task. In addition to the important regular Food Bank delivery, twice a month Orange County’s Second Harvest delivers 2000 pound pallets of groceries to one of EngAGE’s sites for seniors who may not qualify for the Food Bank. EngAGE team members divide the food, then transport it to five other properties where individual packages for residents are prepared for distribution, on-site, by a group of 5-7 resident volunteers.
At a farewell party for Jewel, volunteers, co-workers, and three coordinators from the Orange County Food Bank’s main office cheered her, thanked her, and recalled various hair-raising experiences during their years of working together.
And, fortunately, Jewel didn’t leave us without taking the time to train our new Food Bank Coordinator, Laura Sardisco. Welcome, Laura!
