Home-Sweet-HomeNikkei Senior Gardens in Arleta, CA (a district in the San Fernado Valley, adjacent to LA),  was designed especially to attract older Japanese residents.

“Nikkei celebrates Japanese culture, including Japanese language and cooking classes, walking proximity to the community center,  and a garden where residents have planted tomatoes, cucumbers, eggplant, melons  and roses. ‘The average resident’s age is 85, said Marc Aronoff,’ Nikkei’s  director of sales and marketing… ‘For those who lived through the (Second World) War, they all have a common  thread,’ [a resident’s daughter said]. ‘Some of them knew each other as little children. Some of  them knew each other from (internment) camps. They’ve reconnected.'”
