Experience Talks is pleased to announce a new segment of our show: Talk Story. Talk Story is a program of EngAGE, Inc., that produces a spoken word series, writing and performance classes, and radio show segments aired on the Experience Talks radio show. The program catalyzes older adults to write and perform true stories from their lives. Onsite classes at senior apartment communities teach seniors writing and performing skills, preparing them to perform in community staged readings and on the Experience Talks radio show. Our goal is to present true stories of personal experiences by older adult storytellers. Participants learn writing, storytelling and performance skills, taught by professional artists from the community hired by EngAGE to guide them through the fabric of their lives, celebrating their rich history and culture, building story-form writing work, and developing each student’s unique voice and experience through creative expression and performance. Talk Story is directed by Experience Talks team member Alicia Sedwick.
Alicia is a professional actor, writer, and professor, as well as a strategic researcher. She is a producer for the storytelling program Spark Off Rose, a professor at the Art Institute Hollywood, and is a teacher in creative writing, storytelling, performance and movement. She received her MFA from American Conservatory Theatre in San Francisco and was a NYC-based theatre actor for 10 years.
Listen to Experience Talks on KPFK-FM this Saturday, September 17, at 8:00 AM PT to hear the first Talk Story segment from a project with the California Council for the Humanities!
