MARCH 4 @ 5:30 PM PT
JAI UTTAL
AZITA NAHAI, PhD
ARDIE BRYANT – a Bobbee Zeno Rewind
and DAVID BRYANT
with host DR. CONNIE CORLEY

Jai Uttal has been rightly hailed as a world music pioneer. Singer, multi-instrumentalist, and producer, he was among the first to hear the universal heartbeat in the variegated rhythms of the globe. But his powerful, plangent voice and panoramic musical vision have also long been at the core of the yoga community’s tradition of call-and response devotional chanting known as kirtan. While his music is deeply rooted in Indian classical tradition—he studied long and hard under the Indian sarod master Ali Akbar Khan—it is also plentifully imbued with echoes of reggae, rock, folk, Brazilian music, Bollywood, and other sounds from across the musical universe. All of these diverse and colorful strands are woven together beautifully on Jai’s new album “Roots, Rock, Rama!”, available for purchase here.

Dr. Azita Nahai is a Kundalini Yogi, scholar and therapist. She is the founder of Trauma to Dharma™ ~ an experiential methodology that integrates a holistic mind-body-spirit approach to healing trauma and transforming one’s pain into purpose. As an abuse survivor-turned-thriver, Dr. Nahai experienced a piece missing in her own recovery, and so, she created it. Her decades of research support the use of Kundalini yoga and meditation as a valuable therapeutic modality in post traumatic growth. As a change agent and trauma specialist, she is fueled by her passion to awaken and empower others to become conscious and active participants in their own healing. Dr. Nahai’s anticipated Trauma to Dharma™ book launched in June 2017. Go to azitanahai.com for details on  upcoming Trauma to Dharma™ Full Immersion Workshop in LA and future E-Courses.

The final segment of our show will be from the Experience Talks Audio Archives, featuring a clip of the late Bobbee Zeno speaking to the late Ardie Bryant. March marks the memory of Bobbee’s passing in 2014 and what would have been Ardie’s 88th birthday.  David Bryant, Ardie’s son, will comment on his father’s legacy in the worlds of music and dance.

Ardie Bryant was known worldwide as the “Innovator of Modern Jazz Tap” and the “Ambassador of Tap!”

He was a master jazz tap percussionist, tap preservationist, historian, public speaker, composer, arranger, actor, choreographer and musician with seven decades of professional experience.

He toured the world as a Goodwill Ambassador for the Department of Defense, and the sounds of his percussive feet and his dance memories are preserved as part of the Jazz Oral History Program in the Archives Center of the Smithsonian Institution National Museum of American History.

As a young boy Ardie was influenced by the music of modern jazz giants Charlie Parker and Dizzy Gilliespie, and is credited with developing a new style of tap he named Modern Jazz Tap.

Ardie also had the privilege of being a university professor who not only taught tap, but also empowered students with valuable words of wisdom on how to succeed in life and the entertainment industry, while educating students about the importance and history of tap and jazz tap as an American art form.

In July 2006 Ardie received the prestigious “Los Angeles Cultural Treasure Award” from the City of Los Angeles.
