At the ACE/121 arts colony in Glendale, CA, kids enjoy a great after school program: the Art & Healthy Kids Workshop with Julie Shadpa, an Art Therapist from the University of Southern California Verdugo Hills Hospital.

From Olivera Senior Apartments in Pomona, CA: After a few sips of Merlot and a lot of brush strokes, resident Helene loved how her cactus painting turned out!

Residents at Tavarua Senior Apartments in Carlsbad, CA, ended 2017 with a full calendar of events. They trimmed the tree, enjoyed a meal served to them by our very own Extra Point Youth Group from Carlsbad (see below), enjoyed music and food, and learned about “Living Well,” not only in the new year, but every day.

The Extra Point youth volunteer group was founded recently by Becky Vermillion, a member of the Board of Directors for Carlsbad Youth Baseball, specifically to benefit Tavarua residents. Becky started the group to teach athletes to serve their community off the field, and to do this they will be serving — literally! — a free, hot meal to residents at Tavarua every month! The first meal will be the end of February and is part of EngAGE’s intergenerational programming funded by The Eisner Foundation.

Sometimes Andalucia Senior Apartments and La Coruña Senior Apartments in Van Nuys, CA, have their parties together. This year, they had a Holiday Party with a grill outside! It turned out to be a pretty cold day, though, and so residents weren’t just wearing their Santa hats for festivity, they were wearing them to stay warm!

Louis (Manager at Andalucia) loves to grill outdoors.

Romilla Batra, M.D., chief medical officer at SCAN, and Tim Carpenter, CEO/Founder of EngAGE, share the byline on the article, “Creativity Knows No Age Limit” in McKnight’s Long-Term Care News. The article discusses the recent “Legacy: A Celebration of Senior Artists” art show at Long Beach Senior Arts Colony, and other collaborative programs that demonstrate our joint efforts to enhance the lives of seniors.
