News from Cotton’s Point: Art Show and Afternoon Tea

On October 11th the residents of Cotton’s Point Senior Apartments in San Clemente, CA, celebrated their art with an afternoon tea.

Artist Christine Barone taught a three month “Art for Healing” workshop. Participants immersed themselves in a class that encouraged them to make art based on their emotions, resulting in work that ranged from abstract paintings to collage. For their culminating event, attendees shared their work with the Cotton’s Point community.

Additionally, residents have been meeting twice a week, quilting, painting, and crafting. They did more than proudly display their finished products; their enthusiasm and dedication was clearly exhibited, too.

Everyone enjoyed tea sandwiches and dessert while viewing the beautiful show. The appreciation and smiles of viewers were noted by all. The 2017 Cotton’s Point art show was a success!

Photos from the First Annual EngAGE Community Cup

The First Annual EngAGE Community Cup (formerly Senior Olympics) was held in September at Cerritos Park East in Cerritos, CA. Congratulations to all of the enthusiastic participants and medalists, and a special hat tip to the team from Long Beach Senior Arts Colony who took home the most medals, earning them the championship trophy. The team got some great press in The Grunion, the community newspaper/website for Long Beach: Long Beach Seniors Take Home Gold At EngAGE Community Cup

Special thank you to all of our generous sponsors and our hard-working volunteers! And three cheers for the EngAGE staffers who made sure the day ran smoothly.

We had the good fortune to have some great photographers document the event this year. It was hard to choose photos to showcase on the blog (scroll down), so all of the photos are available in two albums on our Flickr Page: Album 1 features photos from Byron Taylor and Cindy Duggar. Album 2 features photos from Brevin Blanch for Integrity Housing. Thank you so much for your time and talent, photographers!

We also have a special surprise: a drone video! Thanks to Integrity Housing photographer Brevin Blanch for this treat.

Here’s a sample of the fine photography that captured some of the excitement of the First Annual EngAGE Community Cup. This first batch of photos is from Byron Taylor and Cindy Dugger. Click on any photo to enlarge it.

This next batch of photos is from Brevin Blanch for Integrity Housing. Click on any photo to enlarge it.

A memorable event, beautifully captured. Well done, everyone! We’ll see you next year!
