News from Pac Arts: Speakers Event Recorded for Experience Talks

In January, Pac Arts (Pacific Avenue Arts Colony) in San Pedro, CA, hosted a Speakers Event with Engage Founder and Executive Director Tim Carpenter interviewing Linda Grimes. Linda is a founder and Managing Director of the San Pedro Waterfront Arts District whose mission is to promulgate more public art projects in San Pedro.
Last summer, Linda posted a call for artists for a public mural project and Pac Arts muralist, Luis Sanchez, won the commission for a 100′ mural that has been recently completed next to the Warner Grand Theatre.

Tim’s interview with Linda was broadcast on Experience Talks on 1/29. If you missed the show, you can listen to the podcast here in our Experience Talks Archives.

News from Tavarua: Senior Food Program

The Jacobs and Cushman San Diego Food Bank and EngAGE are working together to bring a wonderful food source to Tavarua Senior Apartments in Carlsbad, CA: The Senior Food Program is a federal program that provides monthly supplemental food packages to income eligible senior citizens aged 60 and over. The Food Bank administers the program and distributes USDA-provided food at 37 distribution sites every month throughout San Diego County. Last month, Tavarua participated in the application process.

Now, over 30 residents at Tavarua are receiving the benefit of the Senior Food Program. Each resident receives one box of food per month. The box contains a variety of food including reduced-fat milk, instant non-fat milk, canned meats, peanut butter, canned fruits and vegetables, cheese, rice, pasta, fruit juice, and cereal.

The response from residents was overwhelming. Having the food truck bring boxes to the property greatly relieves some of the stress that our low-income residents feel. They were thrilled to receive their boxes and are already sharing ideas about how to cook with their new food items.
