EngAGE Senior Olympics team members from the Long Beach Senior Arts Colony hope to hold on to their Championship Trophy for the third year in a row! The 15-member team won the award at the 2015 Senior Olympics which had over 300 seniors from across southern California competing in the full day event. The LBSAC team competed for the first time in 2014 in this annual athletic and artistic competition, and won their first time out. These Long Beach seniors, aged 57 to 85, beat out 25 other teams, scoring the most gold medals from field events, performance, and art. Training is now underway for the 2016 Senior Olympics to be held at Cerritos Park East on Saturday, September 24th. Will they win again?

“Think of all the accessibility amenities you’ve gotten used to seeing since July 26, 1990, the day the Americans with Disabilities Act was signed into law: Wheelchair ramps leading into government buildings; support rails in restroom stalls; ATM keypads and elevator buttons in Braille. Despite these improvements, people with disabilities still struggle in many areas, including one you might not think much about: clothing.” 
KITA SHANTIRIS, also known as Dr. Kita S. Curry, is an American poet and psychologist. Published in the U.S., Ireland, and England, her award-winning poetry has appeared in Ambit, Crannóg, The Fish Anthology, Poetry, Poetry Northwest, Quarterly West, The Moth, Slipstream, Wisconsin Review and other journals. In her other life, psychologist Dr. Kita S. Curry is CEO of Didi Hirsch Mental Health Services, a non-profit in Los Angeles. For that work she has been honored for erasing stigma and bringing mental health services to communities of color. CLARA BINGHAM produced the documentary “The Last Mountain,” which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in 2011, screened in theaters in over 60 cities, and won the International Documentary Association’s Pare Lorentz Award. Bingham’s second book, Class Action: The Landmark Case that Changed Sexual Harassment Law, was adapted into the 2005 feature film, “North Country” (Warner Bros) starring Charlize Theron and Francis McDormand. Clara also served as a Washington, D.C., correspondent for Newsweek from 1989 to 1993, where she covered the George H. W. Bush White House leading up to and during the 1992 presidential election.
