Tim Carpenter Selected as 2020 Encore Public Voices Fellow

Congratulations to EngAGE CEO/Founder Tim Carpenter, one of 21 new Encore Public Voices Fellows, selected from more than 225 applicants!

Three years ago, Encore.org teamed up with The OpEd Project and Encore.org Senior Advisor Ann MacDougall to create the Encore Public Voices Fellowship. The Fellowship is part of The OpEd Project’s national Public Voices initiative to change who writes history. And it’s part of Encore.org’s work to diversify and amplify voices at the four-way intersection of aging, longevity, intergenerational connection and social justice.

Many work on racial justice issues. Others speak out against ageism, ableism, exclusion, inequity and social isolation. Some speak through art and film, using cultural and faith approaches to storytelling and activism.

Most important, all are bridging divides. All speak out for a more just and inclusive world. All have the courage of their convictions. Learn about them here.

Then check your email for a link to attend.

Instructor Sarah Jacobus (top row center in photo below) facilitated her first virtual creative writing class for Burbank Senior Artists Colony residents on Zoom back in April. She says, “It was a blast!” She gave two Zoom tutorials earlier that week for regulars in the class so that when the virtual class started, everyone was ready to hop on. Sarah mixed things up for her students, offering some writing, some TimeSlips storytelling, some poetry, and more. The class has been an ongoing success. As Sarah observed, “The hunger for contact is so strong right now, even for those who are not living alone.”

Instructor Sarah Jacobus’ virtual writing class at Burbank Senior Artists Colony respond to a prompt asking what they’re doing daily to help get through sheltering in place.
