Host Tim Carpenter presents a Spark Off Rose/EngAGE Storytelling Event
On this program, we feature the writing and performances of three of the storytellers who bared their souls onstage at the Spark Off Rose/EngAGE storytelling event in Pacific Palisades in May of this year. Dennis Danziger (above center), Nailah Jumoke (above left) and Richard Valenzuela share very personal stories of Turning Points in their lives. And, the tales were accompanied by the amazing live musical savoir fare of David Garfield & the Cats (above right: David Garfield, keyboards; Alex Ligertwood, vocals). Producers of the live show were Alicia Sedwick, Jessica Tuck, Giulia Good Stefani ,Janet S. Blake, Dave Connaughton, and Karin Gutman.

Fifty years ago this month, “Be My Baby” was released. The Ronettes sang it, Phil Spector produced it, but what everyone who’s ever heard it will never forget is the most memorable downbeat in popular music and the break near the end of the song that repeats it. The drummer? Hal Blaine, 84, who played on a huge number of hits from those days as a part of 
On August 28, 1963, Edith Lee-Payne was celebrating her 12th birthday by attending the March on Washington with her mother. She did not notice the photographer snap her picture. It would be more than 40 years later that her sister saw the photograph in a calendar celebrating African American history. In 2011, she shared her story of attending the march and finding her photo in the National Archives in 2008:
