From EngAGE Site Leader Alma Wright: On the weekend of May 11th, the San Bernardino Public Library hosted an art exhibit by the Latino Arts Association. The exhibit featured 8 local Hispanic artists, including Magnolia resident Thomas “Bear” Ramirez, who showcased 12 of his paintings and a few pottery pieces. Fellow Magnolia resident artists, Susan Coleman and Johnnie Neal were glad to stop by and support him.
“Bear” doesn’t hang out at The Magnolia much. Instead, he spends a lot of time at San Bernardino Valley College, where he takes ceramic and photography classes. He tells me he recently joined the Latino Arts Association. Shortly after, he got this great opportunity to display his work. Up until now, his paintings had been sitting on the floor of his apartment facing the walls. He explains he is his own worst critic and just couldn’t look at them without finding faults in each piece. Today however, he seemed happy his work was being appreciated and admired.
