News from the Team: Cynthia Friedlob in NoHO SAC Art Show Opening June 9th

M02 - Mr. Wu

A still photo from the film “Mr. Wu” (1927) starring Lon Chaney, hand-colored by Cynthia Friedlob.

The hand-colored photographs of fine artist Cynthia Friedlob will be featured in an upcoming art show at the NoHo Senior Arts Colony. Cynthia is Websites/Social Media Manager for EngAGE and a Producer/Host for Experience Talks Online.

Hand-coloring is the traditional way that color was added to photographs in the days before color film. The process was popularly used on portraits and landscapes, then became important on movie theater lobby cards to help entice an audience into the theater — where they’d see a black and white film!

The work on display will include Cynthia’s original photos, photos taken by John Semper Jr. (Experience Talks Online Host/Producer), and stills from classic motion pictures, all hand-colored by Cynthia with specially designed oil paints and colored pencils.

If you’re in the Los Angeles area, please join us at the reception or stop by NoHo SAC to see the show:
