Katherine Switzer, 66, is an author, television commentator, and marathon runner who is best known for being the first woman to run as “a numbered entry” in the Boston Marathon in 1967. Note the qualifier; technically, she was not the first woman to run (others ran “unofficially”) and she was not the first woman accepted as a registered entrant.
