GEORGE DUKE was a singer, and a piano and synthesizer pioneer. A multiple Grammy winner, his work spanned numerous genres as a recording artist, composer, record producer, professor of music, and music director. He first made a name for himself with the album The Jean-Luc Ponty Experience with the George Duke Trio. He was known primarily for thirty-odd solo albums as well as for his collaborations with other musicians. The album “Dreamweaver” was a tribute to his late wife, released in 2013, a year after she passed away and just a month before Duke himself was gone.
In this second part of the interview, Bobbee talks with George about his orchestral tour de force “Muir Woods Suite” (1993), his “In a Mellow Tone” tribute album to Duke Ellington, and the importance of being supportive of young musicians. Read more about George Duke in his LA Times obituary and visit his website at www.georgeduke.com. [Part One of this interview is posted on our Listen Page.]
