This week join host Tim Carpenter as he talks with author and talk show host Dick Cavett, then with film director Tom Shadyac.
DICK CAVETT – Dick Cavett was the host of The Dick Cavett Show from 1968 to 1982 on ABC and PBS. He also hosted talk shows on the USA, HBO and CNBC cable networks. He is the co-author of Cavett and Eye on Cavett and since 2007 has written an online opinion column for The New York Times. His new book, Talk Show, is “a collection of rambling though piquant essays from his New York Times online column. It’s an eclectic and sometimes surprising lineup: on- and off-set celebrity anecdotes; meditations on the art of the comic insult; jaundiced assessments of the 2008 presidential contenders; not one but two apologias for radio DJ Don Imus; scenes from a Nebraska boyhood, with minor hooliganism and encounters with a movie-house pervert.” For more information on Dick Cavett, click here.
TOM SHADYAC – Tom is best known for directing blockbuster comedy films such as “Ace Ventura,” “Liar Liar,” and “Bruce Almighty.” After a cycling accident left him incapacitated for what experts thought might be the rest of his life, he ultimately recovered and emerged a changed man. Disillusioned with life on Hollywood’s A-list, he sold his house, moved to a mobile home community, and decided to start life anew. His new film “I Am,” is a probing exploration of our world, what’s wrong with it, and what we can do to make it better. For more information, click here.
