We’ll focus on the environment this week with two half-hour interviews featuring Ed Begley, Jr., and Gunter Pauli.
Ed Begley, Jr., has been considered an environmental leader in the Hollywood community for many years. He has served as chairman of the Environmental Media Association and the Santa Monica Mountains Conservancy. He still serves on those boards, as well as the Thoreau Institute, the Earth Communications Office, Tree People and Friends of the Earth, among many others. His work in the environmental community has earned him numerous awards from some of the most prestigious environmental groups in the nation.
Ed talks with host Tim Carpenter about his commitment to the environment and his reality TV show, “Living with Ed,” broadcast on the Planet Green channel. The show follows his efforts to live his life with a small carbon footprint, frequently in competition with his best friend, Bill Nye, and often to the chagrin of his less zealous wife, Rachelle Carson. Gunter Pauli has a new model of enterprise: the company as an open economic system and closed ecological system. With Ecover in Belgium, he built the world’s first biodegradable factory and manufactured ecological detergents. He also founded the Zero Emissions Research Initiative (ZERI) at the United Nations University, Tokyo, Japan and is the author of The Blue Economy. Zero Emissions envisages all inputs being used in the final product or services, or converted into value-added inputs for other businesses or processes. He is considered one of the world’s foremost thinkers in the worldwide sustainability movement. Join host Maureen Kellen-Taylor in conversation with Gunter Pauli about the important relationship between sustainable living and business. For more information on Gunter Pauli, click here.
