At Sterling Court Senior Apartments in Anaheim, CA: Archstone Foundation funded Second Harvest to provide Community Gardens to some of the properties to which they currently provide food. Gratefully, Sterling Court is one of five EngAGE properties that received free services, including a monthly Master Gardener on site, soil, fertilizer, seedlings, tools, and gloves. This is an organic, edible community garden. Raised planters were built on site. Program Assistant Nicole Galarado says, “Everyone continues to love and nurture their gardens. They love that their plants are growing so fast!!”
It’s likely that some of the garden harvest ends up at the monthly birthday celebrations. Here, Joe, a resident, barbecues hamburgers and hot dogs. Residents bring side dishes and desserts. There is always plenty of food and everyone enjoys the gathering!
