Helene Weinberg, Program Director, Long Beach Senior Arts Colony (LBSAC) and Pacific Avenue Arts Colony (PacArts in San Pedro) – Helene has worked with EngAGE as a Program Director at two of our Southern California Arts Colonies for almost five years. An award-winning entertainer and educator, she has starred in the touring production of the long-running smash hit, “Forbidden Broadway,” and performed worldwide for corporate, social, and special events. Helene created her business theater and special events company, Out To Lunch Events, in 1994 and debuted her first musical revue, “OUT TO LUNCH – A Whacky Revue of the Workplace,” playing to capacity crowds in Cleveland’s Playhouse Square. Out to Lunch Events continues as a creative boutique production company offering customized live shows and digital media projects written and performed for worldwide audiences. Helene has worked with funny man Drew Carey and with the legendary improv company, The Second City. She wrote and directed the national touring production of “Fashion and Film, On Tour,” starring Shirley Jones, for American Movie Classics, and her voice has been heard on commercials for JC Penney, Goodyear, Cadillac, and KFC. Helene is a returning guest artist and acting coach for Young Actors Camp in L.A. She also performs improv with The Guerilla Improv Troupe, and works frequently as a musical cabaret artist, actor, radio host, coach, & writer.
The Long Beach Senior Arts Colony– along with The Annex, opened in 2013, and has 200 affordable apartments, an Arts Studio with top flight kiln, Music Performance Spaces including a piano, Computer Media Arts Center, Outdoor Performance Areas, Gardens, Art Gallery, Media Lounge, and a black box theater with professional lighting and sound systems. The Colony partners with a number of community arts and educational organizations.
The Pacific Avenue Arts Colony (Pac Arts), an arts-focused community for families, opened in 2015 and is located just outside of San Pedro’s thriving Downtown Arts District. A fully affordable, 49-unit apartment community, the Pacific Avenue Arts Colony features six ground floor live/work units, as well as professional-grade art studios and art gallery spaces. Residence in this new community was determined based upon submission of artistic works.
