Financial Scams to Avoid

Every year at this time, scammers start targeting the unsuspecting public with phone calls and emails claiming to be from the IRS. They will either “phish” for information — trying to get you to reveal your social security number, date of birth, etc., so that they can send you a refund — or they will threaten you with a notice of unpaid taxes that must be paid immediately.

The real IRS will never initiate contact with you by phone, email, or on social media.
