News from LBSAC: Loyola Marymount U. Educates about Composting

Coming soon to Long Beach Senior Arts Colony in Long Beach, CA: composting!

We are pleased that Lezlee Matthews, Ph.D., Director of Community Based Learning at Loyola Marymount University, has let us know that a CACC-CESF* fellow will develop leadership skills by building upon the collaboration begun during Spring 2018 with another department, Green LMU, to plan the composting project at Long Beach Senior Arts Colony. Residents will receive free composting bins, get educated about composting, and begin to practice composting. The Community-Based Learning (CBL) program will support the project and appeal to CBL students and faculty to work with the LBSAC residents or participate in an immersion experience in the field to learn more about the project. Primary funding for the composting bins has been pledged by Green LMU.

Uma Nicole, Certified Master Gardener who advises the gardening group at LBSAC; Helene Weinberg, LBSAC Program Director; and Nancy Goodhart, EngAGE COO, facilitated this community partnership project with LMU.
