Next year we’ll be celebrating the 20th anniversary of EngAGE, Inc., but the organization did not spring into being without a lot of thought and preparation. In 1998, our CEO/Founder, Tim Carpenter, began the process of turning his idea into reality: create a vibrant senior housing environment similar to college using the arts as the glue binding the community rather than just the age of the residents. To celebrate the 20th anniversary of the launch of that effort, a small group of close friends, family, co-workers, and Board members gathered for a surprise party for Tim. EngAGE COO Nancy Goodhart was the instigator of the plan; EngAGE California Board member Dr. Gregory M. Berkhoff and EngAGE National Director of Grants Robin Hart handled the logistics. Greg lured Tim to a restaurant in Westwood where he was greeted by everyone shouting, “Surprise!” And he was surprised! The night included a video looking back at Tim’s life, and a musical performance by his daughter, Zoë. We were all delighted to be able to celebrate this milestone with Tim!

Dr. Greg Berkhoff pays tribute to Tim in this video.
And Tim responds with gratitude.
Congratulations, Tim!
