FIRST COMMUNITY ART SHOW IN OAKLAND

For immediate release

September 18, 2019. Oakland, California. EngAGE, Inc. and Satellite Affordable Housing Associates (SAHA) are pleased to announce an upcoming art show featuring works by ten residents from Glen Brook Terrace, a SAHA affordable homes community for seniors in Oakland.

The art show will serve as a culminating event for a three-month EngAGE art class at Glen Brook Terrace, taught by local artist Santiago Gervasi. “It has been an incredible experience to watch the students grow, learn, and create throughout the workshop. The perspective that these elders bring to their artwork is absolutely inspiring,” Gervasi commented.

The opening reception for the show will take place Friday, October 4, 2019 at Gaylord’s Caffe Espresso, 4150 Piedmont Avenue, Oakland, from 5:00-8:00 p.m. It is free and open to the public, and will include live performances by resident musicians as well.

EngAGE is a national nonprofit organization that changes lives by transforming affordable senior and multi-generational housing communities into vibrant centers of learning, wellness, and creativity. Laura Mason, Executive Director of EngAGE – Northern California noted, “We are thrilled to partner with affordable housing developers like SAHA, who not only create high quality housing, but also seek to create a sense of community within the built environment.”

Satellite Affordable Housing Associates (SAHA) provides quality affordable homes and services that empower people and strengthen neighborhoods. SAHA begins from the idea that every person deserves a home. SAHA communities provide over 3,000 households in northern California’s 8 Bay Area counties with much-needed affordable housing and supportive services. SAHA serves a diversity of populations, including seniors, families, veterans, and special needs populations.  Hang Mosier, SAHA’s Community Engagement Program Director stated, “A safe and affordable place to call home is a basic necessity that all individuals deserve, but there is more to living a fulfilling and enriching life than just having a roof over one’s head. We truly appreciate our partnership with EngAGE to open doors for our seniors to have an outlet for creative expressions and opportunities for social connections.”
