This week: Tim Carpenter talks with Jenny Bowen and Randal Charlton.
Jenny Bowen is a social entrepreneur who is founder and CEO of Half the Sky Foundation and is the 2011 Winner of the Purpose Prize for Intergenerational Innovation, awarded by Civic Ventures. A former screenwriter inspired by the adoption of her own Chinese daughters, Bowen is uplifting the lives of thousands of Chinese orphans. Tim Carpenter talks to Jenny Bowen about the decision to bring purpose to her own life by changing the lives of others.
Randal Charlton was Executive Director of TechTown in Detroit and in 2011 won the Purpose Prize for his efforts. Bored with retirement, Charlton walked into the office of the president of Wayne State University and asked if he had a job – any job – for a lifelong entrepreneur. Charlton took over TechTown, which promotes entrepreneurship in Detroit as a means to create jobs and revitalize the struggling city. Tim Carpenter talks to Randal Charlton about rebuilding the motor city to find his own sense of purpose in non-retirement.
