A live taping of a Radio Show.
Thursday, February 23 @ 5:00 p.m. – The Grove
and
Saturday, February 25 @ 3:00 p.m. – BSAC Theater
Hear stories from EngAGE community residents about coming to America and “What Democracy Means to Us,” then tell us your response in an Audience Discussion Panel with Dr. Katie Mills & Professor Alicia Sedwick.
The Talk Story project is supported by the California Council for the Humanities.
In The Road Story and the Rebel: Moving Through Film, Fiction, and Television, Beat studies scholar Katie Mills examines how road stories, which have offered declarations of independence to generations of rebellious Americans, have been transformed by media, technology, and social movements. Katie Mills is a visiting assistant professor in the Department of English Writing at Occidental College in Los Angeles. She has published essays on the Beat generation and the alternative youth culture in a number of journals and books.
Alicia Sedwick produces and directs Talk Story for EngAGE. She is a professional actor, writer, and professor, as well as a strategic researcher. She is a producer for the storytelling program Spark Off Rose, a professor at the Art Institute Hollywood, and is a teacher in creative writing, storytelling, performance and movement. She received her MFA from American Conservatory Theatre in San Francisco, and was a NYC-based theatre actor for 10 years.
