EngAGE is pleased to launch programming at the new The Magnolia at Highland Senior Apartments in San Bernardino, CA. Read more about this beautiful community here. Classes begin in March, including Chair Yoga/Walk-a-Mile, Decoration for Your New Apartment, and Lunch & A Movie. The Guest Lecture Series will kick off with Linda Griffey from County Health talking about “Weight Management and Low-Cost Healthy Eating.”
Robin Hart, Regional Programs Director reports: At the launch event, in addition to a Power Point presentation on EngAGE programs and a brief overview of services from Western Senior Housing, residents listened to five speakers from the community:
- Sant Khalsa, Chair of the Art Department at Cal State, San Bernardino spoke about art, theater, music and performing arts opportunities in the community, as well as the “Over 60 Program,”which allows residents to attend the University for free with a tuition fee waiver.
- Joann Wilkes, Regional Coordinator, Catholic Charities, offered an overview of services available such as a once a month, on-site food bank, an on-site Money Management class as well as assistance with immigration issues.
- Linda Griffey of the County Health Nutrition Program: Will offer an on-site, 6-week course on fitness and nutrition called the “We Can!” program.
- Amber Davies of the Community Hospital of SB, Education Center, will also offer an on-site, 6-week class on weight management, diabetes prevention and maintenance.
