RODNEY SAULSBERRY
Host: JOHN SEMPER JR.

RODNEY SAULSBERRY, a Detroit native and University of Michigan graduate, is one of the premier voice-over talents in the country. He has announced promos for the ABC hit, Dancing With The Stars, and the critically acclaimed, Charlie Brown Christmas Special. He announced the 34th NAACP Image Awards and the Essence Awards specials on FOX Television, and voiced promos for the Grammy Awards and Country Music Awards for CBS.

What do Zatarain’s, Instant Tax Service, Twix, Toyota Camry, Honda Accord, Verizon, White Castle, 7UP, Burger King, SBC, and Nestle Crunch all have in common? Saulsberry has been a voice-over commercial pitchman for all of these products and many others on television and radio.

He can also be heard reading audio books, as well as narrating E! Entertainment’s True Hollywood Story about Motown R&B singer, Marvin Gaye. His imaging voice has represented NFL Films and several NBA Basketball teams, including the Los Angeles Clippers, Indiana Pacers, and the New Orleans Pelicans.

Animation is another strong suit for this versatile voice actor. Saulsberry was the voice of Joe Robbie Robertson on the hit cartoon series Spider-Man: The Animated Series, and James Rhodey Rhodes in the animated feature film, The Invincible Iron Man.

Rodney’s acting credits include guest star appearances on Monk, Without a Trace, Law & Order: LA and Dr. Quinn Medicine Woman. He also has starred as “Anthony,” a street musician and former homeless man on the Daytime Drama, The Bold and the Beautiful. In 2013 and 2011, Saulsberry received NAACP Image Award nominations in the category of Outstanding Actor in a Daytime Drama Series for that role.

Saulsberry is also a gifted singer who has lent his melodious baritone voice to a jubilant ensemble of background singers on a spirited recording of “Hakuna Matata” on The Lion King movie soundtrack, as well as songs on The Prince of Egypt soundtrack. As a soloist, he has recorded two Rhythm and Blues albums that have resulted in two Billboard charting singles, “I Wonder” and “Look Whatcha Done Now.”

Learn more about Rodney at his website where you’ll also find information about his three bestselling books about the voice-over business:  You Can Bank on Your VoiceStep Up to the Mic, and Rodney Saulsberry’s Tongue Twisters and Vocal Warm-Ups.

News from Cantabria/Asturias: Needlecraft Culminating Event

Craig has been teaching Needlecraft at Cantabria Senior Apartments and Asturias Senior Apartments in Panorama City, CA, since last fall. Craig has a large group of folks with varying levels of expertise who come every week and they create. They make things, usable things, which can be given as gifts or used daily to enhance life.

Here he is with “Miz Mary,” in the red sweater, and Dorothy. “Miz Mary” is in her 90s and a longtime knitter. She brings in books of patterns for Craig and they pore over them, looking for new stitches to work on, and more challenging things to make.

This is Sarah. She knits and crochets blankets and lap blankets that she donates to women, men, and veterans through her church. The small blankets are lap blankets for people in wheel-chairs. She says the toughest part is finding yarn colors that she thinks the men will like. She has made over 25 blankets in Craig’s class.

This is Martha. She takes all of the classes that EngAGE offers. And here’s a new resident who was so impressed with what he saw that he’s going to start coming to Craig’s class when we start back up this month.

We had a “culminating event” where we invited all of the residents of the buildings down to see the beautiful work that everyone has been doing. We had refreshments and a nice turnout of residents and students.

I am so impressed with this group and, particularly, with Craig for always creating a loving, care-taking, imaginative, and artful class that both gives and receives.
