Tim Carpenter to Emcee SCAN Colloquium on Aging

SCAN, a leading senior-focused organization with the mission of keeping seniors healthy and independent, announced it will co-host a colloquium on aging and independence in partnership with Long Beach State University and the City of Long Beach.

On Wednesday, April 12, the event, “Aging Reimagined: A Community Approach to Health and Independence,” will be held at the Walter Pyramid on Long Beach State University’s campus. It will feature panel discussions and presentations by educators, city officials, industry leaders, and senior healthcare experts. The colloquium is the first of several community and employee engagement initiatives SCAN has planned in 2017 to celebrate the organization’s 40th anniversary.

Tim Carpenter, Founder and Executive Director of EngAGE, and host and producer of the radio show Experience Talks, will serve as event emcee, lending his significant expertise to further amplify program discussions. Attendance at the colloquium is by invitation only, but you can read more about it here.

Since 2009, ZEV FELDMAN has held the position of Executive Vice President & General Manager at Resonance Records in Beverly Hills, Ca, where he’s been responsible for content acquisition and A&R, overseeing countless historical jazz recording productions, including the 2012 releases, Wes Montgomery’s Echoes of Indiana Avenue, and Bill Evans’ Live at Top of The Gate which, combined, sold over 60,000 copies world-wide, raising the profile of the label into major focus.

Recently, Feldman has adopted the title, “The Jazz Detective,” while he has scoured the corners of the world finding rare and previously unreleased jazz recordings from some of the biggest names in jazz history, including John Coltrane, Wes Montgomery, Bill Evans, and countless others. Feldman was a producer on the 2015 Grammy-award winning album John Coltrane’s Offering: Live at Temple University and is currently working over 15 different productions, and on the ever-present quest to find newly discovered recordings.

A life-long music fan, Feldman has amassed over 10,000 recordings in the library of his Los Angeles home. “I’ve been collecting music and discovering for as long as I can remember. All I want to do is live another day to do this privileged work.” Learn more here.

Jazz Appreciation Month (fondly known as “JAM”) was created at the National Museum of American History in 2002 to herald and celebrate the extraordinary heritage and history of jazz for the entire month of April.

JAM is intended to stimulate and encourage people of all ages to participate in jazz – to study the music, attend concerts, listen to jazz on radio and recordings, read books about jazz, and more.

This year, being the centennial of jazz icon Ella Fitzgerald, JAM 2017 will celebrate women in jazz. Beyond the traditional female vocalist, there are also many great composers, arrangers, orchestrators, and instrumentalists who have and continue to leave an indelible print on the history and future of jazz.
