EngAGE Chief Administrative Officer Nancy Goodhart and Development Manager Robin Hart were in Portland, OR, to meet with staff from Friendly House, a non-profit neighborhood center and social service agency, to discuss our joint programming effort at Cascadian Terrace, EngAGE’s first community in the Portland area. In addition to conducting a two-day introduction to EngAGE programming methods, they toured Cascadian Terrace with Friendly House staff where they made recommendations on the programing schedule, and met some residents and management staff. EngAGE Founder and Executive Director Tim Carpenter was at Cascadian Terrace on September 9th to host a launch party with entertainment (see photos from that event here). ~ [Thanks to Robin Hart for providing info and photos of the meeting.]

“Staying Healthy with HIV as You Age” Brochure Now Available

HEALTHTo mark National HIV/AIDS and Aging Awareness Day, which was on September 18th, the American Academy of HIV Medicine (AAHIVM) is offering a new HIV and aging brochure, Staying Healthy with HIV as You Age.  This booklet focuses on how to manage the common situation older people face of trying to manage two or more chronic illnesses successfully.

The National HIV and Aging Awareness Day was launched in 2008 to focus attention on HIV-related issues confronting aging adults. Older adults dominate the USA epidemic. In major metro areas, more than half of all those living with HIV are age 50 and older. HIV-related challenges facing older Americans include lack of knowledge about HIV and stigma that discourages them from seeking HIV testing and care. In older adults, HIV is too often diagnosed late in the course of the infection, leading to shorter HIV-to-AIDS intervals and increased risk for other illnesses and poor health outcomes. Learn more at HIV-Age.org.
