NoHo Senior Arts Colony in LA Times Article

NoHo iconEngAGE provide the creative programming for this beautiful new complex. From the LA Times:

The $32-million NoHo Senior Arts Colony is intended for residents age 62 and over with interests in such artistic pursuits as singing, acting, photography and writing. Free classes in the arts will be offered, and the complex will include a 78-seat theater operated by the Road Theatre Co.

The developer, Meta Housing Corp., has staked out a niche making rental housing for Southern California seniors who enjoy the arts and want to be around like-minded souls.  [Read more here.]

Tony Bennett has released more than seventy albums during his impressive sixty year career. At the age of 85, he continues to perform and inspire. What’s the secret to his special sound? In addition to his talent, it’s due at least in part to advice from his old vocal coach, Mimi Speer, who said, ”Never imitate another singer. Listen to musicians, and find out how they phrase and how they feel about a song, and imitate them. If you imitate another singer, you’ll just be one of the chorus.”

Classes in arts, crafts, music, health, and nutrition were supplemented with seminars on how to avoid financial scams, mentoring activities, and special Day of the Dead celebrations. Distribution of food through the foodbank is a monthly staple as are community meetings, social services assistance, and much more. Take a look at the pictures below. At the Happy Community housing development in Beijing, China’s largest property developer is setting aside 24,000 square meters for active seniors to test whether this rapidly aging nation will pay for Western-style retirement living.

Home-Sweet-HomeThe company, China Vanke, thinks there is “ample room for development” in the senior care sector, a spokesman said, and is testing a second pilot project for seniors in the coastal city of Qingdao in addition to the 258,000-square-foot project in Beijing. It plans to open a showroom in the Chinese capital over the Lunar New Year in February.
