QuietCare Monitors Safety of Seniors at Home
There are several companies who offer monitoring using emergency buttons that seniors can push in an emergency. This system offers a different approach. QuietCare is a collection of five motion detectors placed in a house or apartment that use small wireless sensors to learn the resident’s daily living patterns and send alerts when out-of-the-ordinary events occur. “‘QuietCare has been installed in more than 5,000 homes, the 
bulk in senior housing communities,’ said Jim Pursley, general manager for independent living at Intel-GE Care Innovations. The product isn’t covered by medical insurance and the cost varies depending on number of devices, length of contract and if the consumer rents or buys the device.'” Click here to read more in the Roseville [CA] Press Tribune.

Massachusetts: The town of Rehoboth is investigating turning the old Anawan School on Bay State Road into affordable housing for seniors and veterans with the help of the Massachusetts Housing Partnership

Utah: In Taylorsville, Plymouth View senior housing complex serves residents who are at least 62, all are very low-income and living almost entirely on an average of $800 per month in Social Security benefits. Read more here.

Last week, Carl Reiner celebrated his 90th birthday with family and friends, but the award-winning actor/writer/producer and creator of “The Dick Van Dyke Show” also received a digital tribute from the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences.
