Community Spotlight: Long Beach Senior Arts Colony

LBSAC is the EngAGE community currently featured in our website spotlight.

The Long Beach Senior Arts Colony, which opened in December 2012, is a multifamily community that delivers a fully arts-enriched lifestyle to seniors ages 55+. Through this unique concept, Meta Housing Corporation and EngAGE help seniors redefine retirement and improve their overall well-being by discovering and rediscovering their passions through free, on-site professional arts programs.

The property was designed to encourage complete engagement among residents, and features extensive arts amenities, including art studios and an art gallery, as well as a 99-seat performance theater. In addition, the community offers over 15,000 square feet of community space, including a fitness room, yoga/meditation room, large main lobby with piano, computer room, game room, dog park, community gardens, outdoor spa, and outdoor BBQ and seating area with a fireplace.

News from Tavarua: Extra Point Appreciation Dinner

“Trust your impact” is a quote that rings true to The Extra Point crew. At Tavarua Senior Apartments in Carlsbad, CA, the young Extra Point volunteers serve dinner to residents once a month. But at the 2nd annual Appreciation/Back to School dinner in August, the tables were turned when the residents served the kids! From start to finish, it was amazing to see the kids using their best manners at dinner, playing bingo, and even during the water balloon toss! Thank you to every family who stepped out of their comfort zone and stepped up to a cause that pulls heart strings in our community. Let’s keep collecting these annual traditions – Trust Your Impact!

The Extra Point youth volunteer group was founded by Becky Vermillion, a member of the Board of Directors for Carlsbad Youth Baseball, specifically to benefit Tavarua residents. Becky started the group to teach athletes to serve their community off the field, and to do this they serve — literally! — a free, hot meal to residents at Tavarua every month as part of EngAGE’s intergenerational programming funded by The Eisner Foundation.
