On June 8th, Long Beach Senior Arts Colony opened their new art show, “Circle of Unity,” which features the work of professional resident artist Alva McNeal and several of our emerging senior artists. The show included visual arts, ceramics, jewelry, and a community mural created by the elder artists along with the kindergarten class from Maple Village Waldorf Academy.
Special highlights included a “Circle of Unity” Tai Chi demonstration led by Florence St. Peter, our 83 year-old instructor, and her devoted students. A lovely rendition of the song, “Somewhere,” was sung by our talented vocalist, Jacqueline Crist-Franzen. These moments were moving and magical. The arts-loving audience was simply enchanted.
Simply…engaged.
Lena Gonzales, the Councilwoman for The First District of Long Beach, generously donated delicious food for the event, and her staff member presented us with an honorary certificate commending EngAGE for the creative sparks we ignite through our active aging programs and events.
The gallery and lobby area were jam-packed with friends, family, and local art patrons who were delighted and impressed with the creative caliber of our amazing LBSAC community.
We also acknowledged the creative caliber of our wondrous young art instructors, Colette Brown (ceramics) and Ciana Lee (fine art), both graduates of the CSULB art department, who bring out the best in our artists and are the heart of our art programming.
