The California Arts Council announced its plans to award$45,000 to EngAGE as part of its “Research in the Arts” pilot program.
Research in the Arts was developed to foster original research on the value and impact of the arts. Grantees will produce at least one article-length research paper ready for publication.
About the grant:
The U.S. is experiencing an increase in older adults, and helping them remain active in their communities is a priority. Engaging in the arts is a promising approach to help keep older adults active and engaged in meaningful ways. A number of studies suggest that engaging in the arts can help promote well-being of older adults. The purpose of this proposal is to examine the effect of arts programs on well-being with an emphasis on decreasing social isolation and increasing positive affect.
EngAGE received one of just four grants awarded to California-based scholars and research teams. The news of EngAGE’s grant was featured as part of a larger announcement from the California Arts Council, which can be viewed online at http://arts.ca.gov/news/pressreleases.php.
