with host Tim Carpenter

DENNIS DANZIGER is a writer and teacher whose books include A Short History of a Tall Jew and Daddy: The Diary of an Expectant Father. His play, Shalom Vietnam, a one act from the full-length Richard Nixon Sex Tapes, was presented at the 37th Annual William Inge Theater Festival in 2018. His TV writing credits include Taxi, Kate and Allie, and The White Shadow. Danziger taught English and coached basketball for 24 years in the Los Angeles Unified School District where he shepherded thousands of students to their first publications and regularly defeated students in 3-point shooting contests. Dennis and his wife, writer Amy Friedman, co-founded POPS the Club, which creates clubs in high schools that provide a sacred space for the voices of teenagers whose lives have been impacted by mass incarceration. On this show, Tim Carpenter talks to Dennis Danziger about his “new-slash-old” stage production, Double Play. Danziger wrote the first act at age 29 and the second act at 63; this is the first time the full play has been staged.

Double Play opens at the Stephanie Feury Studio Theatre at 5636 Melrose Avenue in Los Angeles, CA, on October 5th and runs through October 28th. Get tickets here.
