News from Tavarua: Gardening and Art

The vegetable garden at Tavarua Senior Apartments in Carlsbad, CA, is producing fine looking tomatoes for one of our residents. She has wonderful success with her use of chicken manure! We meet monthly to share our best growing techniques.

Tavarua has a new art class with a new art teacher, Mary Stabile. Classes are twice a month. Recently, the residents worked on a still life of a kettle. Here you can see the teacher going over step-by-step how to approach this painting.

Research demonstrates that participating in arts activities improves the health and quality of life of older people.
