News from Long Beach Senior Arts Colony: A Fond Send-off for Barbara Fay

Barbara Fay was one of first residents to move into the Long Beach Senior Arts Colony in Long Beach, CA, when the building first opened in November of 2012. She shared her dreams of starting a theatrical troupe and of creating a monthly newsletter for the residents. Barbara’s dreams soon became reality when she formed the Reader’s Theatre program, where she directed a troupe of ten members in over 25 productions over the past six years.

She also wrote a column for our monthly newsletter, “The Source,” which highlighted news, advice, stories, and insights. In addition, Barbara often advocated on behalf of our residents and became the go-to source for senior resources. At our EngAGE meeting, several residents surprised her with a loving tribute of poems, songs, and memories. Outspoken, witty, and smart, she will be missed as she moves on to a new residence a few miles away.

The Reader’s Theatre company members performed a farewell tribute to their director, Barbara Fay.

With tears, cheers, hugs, and heartfelt gratitude, Barbara was overwhelmed with the accolades from her friends. We wish Barbara the very best as she starts a new adventure and she will always have a seat at our table at LBSAC!

How beautiful! She is truly blessed with all this love. I am an office assistant/events coordinator at the senior housing complex. I live AND work here and am the resource person, facilitator of several groups and food programs love and enjoy it, but I might be moving on soon and I know I will miss the people and the work. I am working on some goals of my own and will see how things go. I am in my early seventies, but I would like to fulfill some personal goals as well. Who knows about my “what next?” but this is such an uplifting article! Thanks so much for sharing! <3 Oh, I also write for our newsletter!

What a talented resident! I would love to connect with you and learn more about your community and location. I have been invited to submit an outline for a Reader’s Theatre class through Ollie at Cal State Long Beach. The site will be at my new home location @ American Gold Star Manor. The season would start in April 2019 and are open to everyone!

I would love to see some of your newsletter’s articles.

      Regards, Barbara
