Safety Month: The City of Anaheim Fire Department presented two guest speakers. They addressed an audience of 39 residents at Solara Court. In addition to advice on preparing an emergency backpack, the speakers discussed proper evacuation methods. The Anaheim Police Department was represented by Detective Elliott. Residents were warned of “Senior Financial Scams,” as Elliott relayed stories of seniors close to home who had been scammed.
Food Bank: EngAGE’s Jewel Forga, pictured below, maintains office hours every Wednesday to answer residents’ questions and process paperwork. She also oversees the distribution of the 40-pound boxes of food that are delivered to Solara Court each month.
Exercise Class: Pictured in the background (below) in an orange shirt, Doris attends exercise class for the first time. She has been observing in the lobby for almost three months!
Gardening/Walking & Talking: Solara Court parking lot offers a perfect walking track. The garden, with benches and a fountain, provides the ideal resting place in between laps. Residents have gathered on Fridays from surrounding properties as well, including Villa Anaheim, to walk with neighbors. Solara Court residents enjoy taking the visitors on the Garden Tour, displaying their herbs, vegetables, and flowers.
Crafts Class: Artist Marianne can often be found painting in the community room. Mrs. Park admires her heart boxes, decorated just right.
Using Computers: Solara residents are very serious about their course work and compose the largest, most consistent class in this region. English as a Second Language is an option for any and all students who enter the class. Pictured below, Maria is identifying a picture with a sentence. Her primary language is Portuguese. Also, Choon and Nina are consistent students, learning English.
