Using Technology to Follow the Aging Process

Inner Life Of NumbersOregon Health & Science University is conducting an interesting study using simple motion detectors to track seniors’ movements in their homes. From OregonLive:

“In the future, a doctor or family member with access to the data may be able to notice changes before they become problems. A falter in Trudy Rice’s walking speed, as measured by four sensors HEALTHmounted on the ceiling from the front door to the living room wall, may indicate the onset of  Alzheimer’s disease.  Bedroom, bathroom and front door sensors may provide hints of sleep problems, or lack of socialization.” Read more here.
