News from Portofino: Printmaking

At Portofino Villas in Pomona, Art with Matt is a dynamic class that introduces residents to an array of art techniques and media while encouraging their own creativity potential.

Projects:

  • Printmaking- Creating Editions
  • Linoleum Cutting and Block Printing
  • Rubber Cut Process
  • Creating Multicolor Printed Editions

Instructor Matt McMillon notes: My class is very interested and engaged in the printmaking process.  Last session, we created approximately 30 prints from the plates they had created over the last few months. One thing that makes me so incredibly proud of this class is their dedication to craftsmanship and their ability to always rise to the challenge. They are producing high quality work and learning printmaking processes and techniques at a college level.

Worth Repeating: Our Country’s Blog

“Worth Repeating” is a weekly feature on the EngAGE Blog that will bring you previous posts that we think are still timely, interesting, or just plain fun! From 6/12/15:

WORTH-REPEATINGDid you know that there’s a blog that serves everyone in the U.S.A.? Yes, blog.usa.gov is the non-partisan, official blog for our country, and its posts offer a wide array of useful information and fascinating tidbits. You can learn about a variety of topics, such as how to prepare for hurricane season, get tips about how to fly with your pet, see some great historical photos, and much, much more.

EngAGE Blog reader Sally Castiglia sent along a link to a blog post about an unusual topic:  What happens to groceries at the White House in a Presidential transition? This note from Eleanor Roosevelt to Bess Truman explains what happened in 1945.

News from Magnolia @ Highland: “Discovery Through Art” Group Art Show

EngAGE Regional Programs Director Alma Wright reports from the Magnolia at Highland Senior Apartments in San Bernardino:

We had a culminating event to celebrate our residents’ participation in Cal State University at San Bernardino’s Art Instruction Dept. community outreach program. About 10 residents took the 8-week “Discovery through Art” course taught by two CSUSB students. Very cool things happen whenever we have inter-generational programs in place! In the end, 10 lucky people got to have their own art exhibition complete with food, family and friends.

EngAGE offers a variety of classes, workshops, and special programs at each of our communities. These posts highlight just a small sample.
