“The personal is political,” a slogan used in the 1960s by the student movement and 2nd wave feminism, emphasizes the connections between personal experiences and socio-political structures. It can be argued that all art is political. “Reimagining America” addresses the myriad issues in times of personal, social, and economic uncertainties.

Diane Williams, art show curator, is a multidisciplinary artist and emerging curator living and working in Los Angeles, CA. She earned her BFA degree from CSU, Long Beach in 2013. Her work has been featured in select publications and exhibited in solo shows including Beautiful Creatures at Cerritos College Gallery, INcongruence at Gallery 825 in Los Angeles (2018) and several group exhibitions, with upcoming residencies in 2019 at Museum of Art and History MOAH-Cedar in Lancaster, Ca and LFCSA in Los Angeles, Ca. Williams has works in both private and public collections: National Immigration Law Center, Los Angeles and Washington DC headquarters (2016) and Azusa Pacific University (2017). www.dianewilliamsartist.com

Ben Evans, Program Director/Gallery Curator at ACE/121, is originally from WA State. Ben settled in Los Angeles after a decade living abroad. Following a B.A. in Theater Studies from Yale University, he lived in London, Barcelona, and Paris, where he earned an M.A. in Theater and Choreography from the University of Paris 8. His work as a choreographer and performer toured across Europe and parts of North and South America, and his more recent work in visual art has been shown in France, Germany, Brazil, and Cyprus. He grew up with a strong sense of service and his move to Los Angeles was inspired by a desire to make an impact on a local level. He is elated to work with the residents at ACE/121 in Glendale in creating an innovative model of multi-generational living, art making and community development.

News from Andalucía and La Coruña: 4th of July Celebration

Elizabeth Sampson reports from Van Nuys, CA: Every once in awhile, we combine the properties Andalucía and La Coruña and throw a really huge party at one location. This year they had their Fourth of July party at the end of June. Jessica Wierzba came out to teach line dancing to the residents like she did last year. We had a potluck and raffle, and Louis cooked meats on the outdoor grill. I brought cowboy hats for everyone and we had a hootenanny. Not everyone danced, but everyone definitely had a great time.

Here are Cassie and Julie Allen with Jessica. Julie Allen didn’t let her wheelchair keep her from moving to some Honky Tonk.

Here is Bonnie. She got one of the few pink cowgirl hats, and is ready for lunch!

Here’s manager Louis Perla bringing in the meats from the outdoor grill.

The property managers, Louis and Kea Kane, are so attentive and kind.

The residents love them and the buildings are full of great energy and happy people living full lives.
